The rules list is non-exhaustive and capable of changing. Staff may issue punishments for behavior not explicitly covered in the rules, subject to admin review.
Punishments for breaking any rules can range from a warning to an IP ban. Some rules are considered especially significant and will have punishments starting at a much harsher level.
Punishments stack, causing minor rule breaks to have severe consequences for repeated issues.
Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse or pass to break rules.
Discussion of punishments outside of a staff ticket is not allowed. What constitutes a discussion is based on staff discretion.
If you believe you have been punished unfairly, you may make a punishment appeal on the server discord, which can be found here.
Player Agreement: By connecting to Distant Horizons, you agree to follow all rules listed below.
These rules apply anywhere that text can be seen in game or in Discord, unless otherwise noted. This includes all public chat channels (global, nation, and towny), signs, and item/mob names.
1st Offense: Warning
2nd Offense: 1 Hour Mute
3rd Offense: 1 Day Mute
4th Offense: 1 Day Ban
5th Offense: 7 Day Ban
6th Offense: Permanent Ban
A. No Advertising Other Servers (1st Offense: Permanent Ban)
Promoting other Minecraft servers or communities disrupts our player base and dilutes the experience. Any
messages or discussions that advertise another server will be considered a violation of this rule. This includes advertising through buildings and pictures.
B. Inappropriate Language
While DH allows mild cussing, it shall be prohibited for any member to use any discriminatory language or slurs, to spam or excessively send cussing messages, or to use language which is harmful or disruptive for another player.
C. Spam
To maintain a smooth and enjoyable chat experience, excessive messaging or spamming is prohibited. This includes:
- Repeatedly sending the same message or similar messages
- Flooding the chat with a high volume of messages in a short period
- Using excessive emojis or special characters
D. No Toxicity / Harassment / Trolling
Toxic behavior, including harassment or trolling, can create a hostile environment and discourage players from participating. While mild cursing is permitted, the use of discriminatory language or slurs is strictly prohibited. Additionally, spamming or excessively sending cursing messages, as well as using language that is harmful or disruptive to another player, will not be tolerated. This includes personal attacks, insults, and any behavior intended to provoke or upset others.
E. Non-English in Public Channels
DH is a North American-based Minecraft server. Therefore, we require the use of the English language in all public chat channels to allow for effective moderation and to ensure the safety of all players. Members are welcome to communicate in whichever language is most comfortable for them in private messages or non-public channels.
Unless otherwise noted, the following rule violations shall be punished via the following format:
1st Offense: Warning
2nd Offense: 1 Day Ban
3rd Offense: 3 Day Ban
4th Offense: 7 Day Ban
5th Offense: Permanent Ban
A. Hacked Clients and Cheats (First Offense: Permanent Ban)
The use of hacked clients, texture/resource packs that offer unfair gameplay advantages, auto clickers, or any cheats active on your account is prohibited, regardless of whether they are actively being used. An unfair advantage allows any gameplay behaviors not available in vanilla Minecraft.
B. Exploits/Glitches (First Offense: Permanent Ban)
Using or knowingly benefiting from glitches or exploits is prohibited. This includes and covers any action that results in an unexpected or unintended result. Any exploit must be reported to staff immediately. This includes, but is not limited to:
- AFK/AFK kick avoidance.
- Taking advantage of any server bugs.
- Attempting or succeeding in exploiting a Minecraft bug to gain an advantage over other players.
Using methods to trigger mouse or keyboard buttons continuously without player interaction is not allowed. This includes weights holding down keys, keystroke commands, or software that simulated multiple keystrokes. Additionally, the use of macros and scripts is prohibited, including auto-joining, sending multiple commands per execution, and repeatedly sending commands via toggling.
C. Failure to Report
Use, abuse, or unreported knowledge of another player using/abusing any exploit is not allowed. Any exploit must be reported to staff immediately upon discovery.
D. Griefing
It is prohibited for any member to build or destroy the Earth world in the following ways:
- Intentionally damaging the Earth world outside of claimed towns to make it unattractive or unsightly
- Building or destroying in the wilderness with the intent to make the land unattractive.
Note: Griefing will not be enforced in the resource world, Nether world, or End world.
E. Inappropriate Skins
Skins which show a nude figure, discriminatory character or defamatory language are not allowed.
1st Offense: Warning
2nd Offense: Permanent Ban
F. Alternate Accounts
Accounts on the same IP Address are allowed as long as they belong to different people. Alternate Accounts belonging to the same person are not allowed.
1st Offense: Permanent Ban of alternate account and warning on main account
2nd Offense: Permanent IP Ban
G. No Discussion of DDoS, Cyber Attacks, Real-Life Threats, or Doxxing (First Offense: Permanent Ban)
Any discussions of threats related to DDoS attacks, cyber attacks, real-life threats or doxxing are strictly prohibited. These behaviors are not only illegal but pose serious risk to individuals and the community as a whole. This rule is subject to moderation in non-DH spaces.
Reports of serious threats or doxxing from must include one or more of the following:
- Extreme Threats: Direct threats against a server member.
- Incitement of Violence: Calls for extreme violence toward a member.
- Major Doxxing: Significant exposure of a member’s personal information.
Protected personal information includes:
- Full names (first or last names alone may not violate the rule; context will be assessed)
- Home, IP, or work addresses
- Workplace details
- Phone numbers
- Social security or governmental IDs
- Bank account or credit/debit card information
- Private correspondence not involving the releasing party
- Criminal history
- Personal photos (without explicit written consent or if not publicly posted)
H. Inappropriate Builds
Builds that contain offensive, explicit, or otherwise inappropriate content are strictly prohibited. This includes any structures, signs or artwork that may be deemed offensive to others.
I. Stealing
Taking items or resources from another player’s builds or chests without permission is strictly forbidden.
Note: Stealing is only enforced in claimed areas. To protect their items, players must use signs to lock and secure their chests.
J. Server Performance
Builds designed to slow down or crash the server, such as excessive redstone machines, large entity farms, or other performance-hindering structures, are not allowed.
K. Claim blocking
Players may not use town claims to prevent another town from expanding.
These rules apply in all worlds, including both wilderness and town claims, unless stated otherwise.
A. Staff Instruction
It shall be prohibited for any member to ignore the orders of any Distant Horizons Staff Member.
1st Offense: Warning
2nd Offense: 1 Hour Mute/Ban
3rd Offense: 1 Day Mute/Ban
4th Offense: 3 Day Ban
5th Offense: 7 Day Ban
6th Offense: Permanent Ban
B. Punishment Evasion
It shall be prohibited for any member to evade or avoid their punishment, whether through server chat, discord chat, or other means. Your punishments should not be aired out in public chats. If you have questions or comments regarding your punishment(s), you should make a ticket.

2nd Offense: 1 Day Punishment Extension
3rd Offense: 7 Day Punishment Extension
4th Offense: Permanent Ban
1st Offense: Permanent Ban
A. Issuing or threatening to issue chargeback or any form of legal action against Distant Horizons will result in a permanent IP ban.
Any rule violation that occurs in the Distant Horizons Discord shall result in the equivalent punishment given in game, with, “Discord” signified in the punishment message. A player’s behavior on discord and in game shall be grouped together.
Player Agreement: By connecting to Distant Horizons, you agree to follow all rules listed above. It is the responsibility of the player to read and understand the DH Server Rules prior to playing on Distant Horizons. A player choosing not to read the DH Server Rules does not exempt the player from breaking DH Server Rules.
